Semroc Orbital Transport

  • Model: SEM KV-66
  • Manufactured by: Semroc

One of my favorite kits years back was the original Estes Orbital Transport. Based on some early Space Shuttle concepts, the model was just plain cool and futuristic. The Orbital Transport kit was also fun to fly, with a parachute on the booster, and an "Orbital" glider that would spiral down gently from apogee.

Estes reissued this kit a few years ago, but with heavy plastic nose cones, and the booster cone had a different shape from the original one. Semroc has corrected both of those problems here.

The Orbital Transport xKit is a faithful recreation of the earliest version from Estes Industries. It was designed by Wayne Kellner and was originally released in 1968 as Catalog #K-34. It was later reborn as a commemorative model with plastic nose cones. The model features balsa nose cones, laser-cut balsa fins, elastic shock cord, and improved shock cord mounting.
